The History of Windmill

Windmill was established in 1988, in order to execute a short term contract with NATO AEW&C Program Management Agency (NAPMA) to provide program management and acquisition support to the multinational AEW&C program. Nineteen years later, NAPMA continues to be a primary Windmill customer, and we have grown our level of support from one individual to eighteen.
Based on our initial success with NAPMA, Windmill began competing for, and winning, professional support contracts with the U.S. Air Force’s Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts. Today Windmill members support 3 out of 4 Wings at ESC, in a wide variety of professional disciplines, and have grown our presence to more than 50  members.  The Air Force recognized Windmill as the ESC Small Business of the Year in 2002.
In addition to Hanscom Air Force Base, Windmill members can be found today at the Secretary of the Air Force Office of International Affairs. The company also has a significant contingent of members in Seattle, co-located at Boeing’s facilities, supporting AEW&C acquisition and modification. Additionally, in support of AEW&C, Windmill has representatives in Tokyo, Japan.
In 2001 Windmill diversified its efforts and teamed with Lockheed Martin to pursue and win the new Transportation Security Agency’s Specialized Security Training Contract. This was the major effort in response to the 9/11 tragedy, to substantially increase airport security with well-trained screeners and modernized equipment. Windmill’s role was to provide a full spectrum of logistics support services to train over 56,000 screeners at over 425 locations, nation-wide. Windmill’s support efforts continue today with a variety of TSA security-related training programs.

In 2002, Windmill further diversified its business base, winning and executing U.S. Air Force Small Business Independent R&D programs. We have successfully transitioned our efforts to Phase III, and are introducing our antenna technology program to commercial practice.

Based on Windmill’s entrepreneurial growth, the Company was named to the INC 500 list of fastest growing small businesses in 1994, 1995, and 2002.
